Bernalillo County, the City of Albuquerque and the State of New Mexico have committed themselves to improving residents’ lives and the public’s safety by strategically evaluating and enhancing resources for mental health and substance abuse treatment.

BernCo and Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge have partnered to create New Mexico’s first nature explore outdoor classroom. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 11 a.m., at Mountain View Community Center, 201 Prosperity SE.
The county is currently experiencing near record breaking heat that can have a tremendous effect on the fuels available to burn. Residents should take measures to reduce the dangers of fires. This includes knowing what types of fireworks are prohibited and where.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BSCO) in conjunction with the Bernalillo County Fire Department (BCFD) and the Bernalillo County Office of Emergency Management will host a community meeting at the Sheriff’s East Area Command Center- James McGrane Public Safety Center on Wednesday, June 28 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss each of our agency roles, responses and responsibilities during a wildfire.

The New Mexico Department of Health advises residents to take extra precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The department is also reminding New Mexicans to never leave their children or pets inside an unattended vehicle. Temperatures over the next several days are expected be the warmest days of the year so far in several parts of New Mexico.

South Valley MainStreet and Bernalillo County kick off La Familia Growers’ Market on Friday, June 23 with music, art and food from 4-8 p.m. at Dolores Huerta Park, 100 Isleta Boulevard SW. The market at Dolores Huerta/Gateway Park returns for its fourth year as La Familia Growers’ Market. It will be held weekly on Fridays from 4-7 p.m.
delinquent taxes
Property owners with unpaid real property taxes who currently owe 2014 taxes have until June 30 before their accounts are turned over to the state of New Mexico for collections. They risk having their property sold at public auction to pay the property tax debts. Property owners must pay their 2014 back taxes in full to avoid this.

Residents in Bernalillo County may be targeted by scammers over the phone trying to obtain information, claiming to be from the Bernalillo County Court of Wills, Estates and Probate. A personal representative of an estate that had been filed with the court received a suspicious call from a person, saying that they work at the probate court, requesting information regarding the decedent’s social security number and information about assets of the estate.

Bernalillo County’s Public Art Program is sponsoring a project by Working Classroom and artist Mark Horst to collect and preserve the stories of the South Valley.

Bernalillo County’s 2017 Summer Lunch Program kicked off at 53 locations throughout the county, offering free healthy meals to children and teens at churches, parks, community centers, apartment complexes and a health clinic, among other locations.

Bernalillo County Parks & Recreation is again hosting its popular and family-friendly series Movies in the Park this summer from June 3 through Aug. 26 at various locations throughout the county.
Memorial Day Pool Schedule
Bernalillo County Aquatics Department’s three seasonal pools and the Alameda Spray Park are open daily until 5 p.m. for the summer starting Saturday, May 27 through Aug. 7. BernCo’s pools and spray park offers families opportunities for swim lessons, water aerobics, slides and much more to enjoy in the summer heat. Residents can also rent the pools after 5 p.m. for parties and other gatherings.

Residents in Bernalillo County have been targeted by scammers over the phone trying to steal credit card and banking information, claiming to be from the Bernalillo County Treasurer’s Office. Residents should never provide their credit card or banking information to unsolicited callers.
Parents Who Host
Parents who give alcohol to their teen’s friends under any circumstances, even in their own homes, are breaking the law. Parents who knowingly allow a person under 21 to remain in their home or on their property while consuming or possessing alcoholic beverages can be prosecuted.

Bernalillo County's popular "Movies in the Park" summer series kicks off June 3 and runs through August 26, 2017. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and enjoy a free movie in the outdoors! Bernalillo County will provide nearly 150,000 meals this year. No registration is required for the program, which runs from May 31 to Aug. 4. BernCo’s Summer Lunch Program has been awarded the Top Dog award for the best-administered program by the state Children, Youth and Families Department, which oversees summer lunch programs across the state.
A new collaboration revamps the handling of mental health crisis calls in Bernalillo County and the City of Albuquerque. The announcement features Bernalillo County Manager Julie Morgas Baca, Commissioner Wayne Johnson, Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III, Mayor Richard J. Berry, APD Chief Gorden Eden Jr., Steering Committee and Crisis Services Chairman Rick Miera and survivor and Community Advocate Kathy Finch.
Bernalillo County Treasurer Nancy M. Bearce and her staff would like to thank everyone for making this tax season go smoothly.
The Water Conservation Project at the UNM North Golf Course that uses recycled water from the UNM Chiller Plant to water the golf course is now complete. The program estimates that there will be 14 million gallons in water savings annually that will be used to water the course.
The Behavioral Health Initiative introduced a permanent solution for those who have been stuck in the revolving doors of mental health services, or who have fallen through the cracks; housing coupled with intense case management through the Community Connections program.
