BernCo to Meet with Young Women Entrepreneurs from Turkmenistan

Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins will meet today with young women entrepreneurs from Turkmenistan who are in New Mexico through a program sponsored by the Open World Leadership Center and administered locally through the Albuquerque Sister Cities Foundation.

The group will meet Commissioner Hart Stebbins at the county administrative offices in Conference Room B,

10th Floor, 1 Civic Plaza NW at 4 p.m. The commissioner will lead the group on a walking tour of Downtown Albuquerque that will finish with a tour of Zendo Café, 413 Second Street SW, a nearby women-owned coffee shop. The commissioner has invited several Albuquerque women entrepreneurs to meet with the visitors at Zendo Café to discuss and share ideas for making their businesses grow and thrive.

“On International Women’s Day, I am so pleased to introduce these young women to some of Albuquerque’s most energetic and successful women entrepreneurs,” says Commissioner Hart Stebbins. “There is much knowledge to share from both sides and we hope this time is fruitful and enjoyable for everyone involved.”

The young women entrepreneurs from Central Asia are in New Mexico through a program sponsored by the Open World Leadership Center (OWLC) an independent government agency of the United States Congress. The OWLC administers the Open World program, an exchange and partnership program designed to enhance understanding between the Congress, American cities and global leaders. The Open World program builds the groundwork for enduring cooperation by bringing emerging government and civic leaders to the United States to work with their American counterparts during 10-day professional visits.

The group is also meeting with the City of Albuquerque, U.S. Congressional officials, and various business leaders, owners, and financial groups as part of their weeklong visit to Albuquerque.
