Community Services

Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation is responsible for creating and providing recreation, leisure and community services necessary to promote public well-being and quality of life for youth, adults, senior citizens and special populations of Bernalillo County.

The county's community centers are integral to this mission.

What We Do:

  • Each Bernalillo County community center provides various programs and activities for youth and adults, such as the Summer Recreation Program, Parky's Pals Pre-School Recreation Program, aerobics and fitness classes, dance instruction, arts and crafts, and one-on-one literacy tutoring.
  • The Teen Program provides after-school recreation for children ages 13-17 years, such as field trips, dance crews and homework assistance. This program is held at the Westside and Mountain View Community Centers and the Paradise Hills Teen Center.
  • Raymond G. Sanchez, Los Vecinos, South Valley Multi-Purpose Senior Center and Paradise Hills community centers house senior citizen meal-site programs.
  • All community centers are used to host a variety of community organizations, events, sports leagues and meetings.

Community Services
  • Weekly crafts, outdoor activities, and experiments will be offered to deepen your discovery of the natural world. Each visitor can make a journal and crafts to take home. Activities are correlated to school science standards making this a great opportunity for homeschoolers to learn, explore and play! Contact (505) 314-0420.

  • Join us Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for pickleball at Los Vecinos Community Center. Membership is $12- veterans and seniors over 55 are free. Questions? call the center at (505) 314-0240.

  • Seniors 50 +who are members of the City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs can register for adapted aquatics classes taught at the UNM Therapeutic Pool (92 degree water). Participants will be led through a series of range of motion exercises that will increase joint mobility and develop muscular strength. Transportation from Vista Grande is provided and leaves the center at 12:20. Space is limited. Class cost is donation of $8. Register in person or over the phone at Palo Duro Sports and Fitness 880-2800 or Los Volcanes Fitness Center 839-3710 or North Domingo Baca Fitness Center at 764-6496.
