El Camino Real Trade Fair Steps Back into History

Experience the 1800s along El Camino Real through living history reenactments and interactions, weaving demonstrations, a blacksmith and even cannon firings.

Plan to attend the El Camino Real Trade Fair happening this Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. — 4 p.m. at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House, 6029 Isleta Blvd. SW, about three miles south of Rio Bravo Boulevard.

This family-friendly event is free.

Local artisans will sell their wares and the Tractor Brewing Co. will offer beer to whet the whistle. Navajo rug authentications and evaluations will occur on-site and there will be a jewelry and textiles trunk show in the parlor of the main house.

Children’s activities include art, the National Park Service’s Junior Ranger program and old-time board games.

Rounding out this yesteryear event are the modern amenities of food trucks, educational workshops and live entertainment that varies by the hour.

Here is the schedule of the day’s activities:

Live Music and Entertainment:

10:30 a.m. Matachines

Dance and symbolic reenactment of various aspects of both the medieval Hispanic culture and the indigenous tribes

11:15 a.m. Baila Baila

Traditional Mexican folk dance

12:15 p.m. Peter Feather Redheart

Native American flutist

1:15 p.m. Hector Pimentel

An internationally recognized master guitarist, Hector plays classical and Nuevo Flamenco styles of music

2:15 p.m. Cipriano Frederico Vigil

A native New Mexican guitarist, Cipriano’s repertoire consists of several styles of music and songs traditionally found in northern New Mexico

10 a.m. Aparejo (mule) Packing System, Ron and Pat Rundstrom

11 a.m. Navajo Rugs and Jewelry, Edison Eskeets

Noon. Medicinal Plants and Changing Landscapes of Central New Mexico, Dara Saville

1 p.m. Aparejo (mule) Packing System, Ron and Pat Rundstrom

2 p.m. Juliana Gutiérrez-Hubbell Historic Marker Dedication and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
