It’s the 25th Anniversary of Public Art in Bernalillo County


The Bernalillo County Public Art Program was established in 1992 with the adoption of the county’s Art in Public Places Ordinance. The program celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a celebration on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Hiland Theater, 4800 Central Ave. SE.

The free for all ages event included:

  • Live artists’ demonstrations
  • Hands-on art making
  • Live music by Zack Freeman
  • “The Making of Reels and Wheels” movie premier
  • A mini-mural
  • Edible art
  • A public art petting zoo
  • And of course, birthday cake!

Special workshops by artists whose artwork is included in the county’s art collection included Holly Roberts and Catalina Delgado Trunk.

“Public Art has the power to inspire curiosity, encourage contemplation, facilitate dialogue, foster community engagement, and create a sense of place. Located throughout the county the collection enhances quality of life through the acquisition of exceptional works of art by artists at various career stages.” -Bernalillo County Arts Board Vision Statement.
