02/02/2016

On Feb. 17, 2016, Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins hosted a free Probate Court Informational Fair in the lobby of the Hiland Theater, at 4800 Central Ave. SE.

Bernalillo County Probate Court Judge Willow Misty Parks and Second Judicial District Judge Shannon Bacon provided information regarding the probate processes in their respective courts. In addition, attorneys from the Second Judicial District Pro Bono Committee were on hand to respond privately to specific legal questions regarding wills, estates and probate.

About 60 people attended the fair and 48 people were able to meet privately with pro bono attorneys.

Probate Court Informational Fair

“Our constituents have asked for help with specific legal questions about wills and probate court, and we’re listening,” Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins says. “This event is free and open to the community, and I’m grateful to Judge Willow Misty Parks, Judge Shannon Bacon and the many attorneys who have volunteered their time to help.”

“One of the primary reasons for hosting this event is get information to the community about the probate processes available at District Court and the Bernalillo County Court of Wills, Estates and Probate,” says Bernalillo County Probate Court Judge Willow Misty Parks. “It is especially important to me because a great portion of those who use the Court of Wills, Estates and Probate are not attorneys--which make up approximately 650 of the 900 plus cases.”

This informational fair also let people know about the differences in the probate processes and the options available to them between District Court and Probate Court.
